“All rivers lead to the sea” is the driving statement behind this design.

The site analysis uncovered that the area featured a strong concentration of bars, restaurants and stores, as well as a large number of political and historic sites. The analysis also revealed a great lack of greenspace around its immediate surroundings.

Taking this into consideration, the design for this health facility explores the concept of fluidity through a more geometric approach in order to conform to the (tri)angularity of the site. Splitting the program into public and private massings prioritizes direct access across the site by carving out the urban space. This creates a series of tunnels, much like water pipes, which funnels pedestrians from one end of the site to another. The resulting areas of this public circulation creates a series of larger and smaller grouping zones.

Finally, the use of wood and glass in the design create a light and airy feel in order to contrast the heavy concrete and brutalist structures in the area, while the peeling, stacking and rotating of massings around a pivot point allows for the generation of panoramic views into the city. In conjunction with the chosen materials, carefully populating the building with greenery allows for the bleeding of interior and exterior spaces.
